Field of Pink
Love in bloom
The water lily/pond/koi fish business located in Adamstown, MD, is named Lilypons.  However, the name is frequently misspelled as Lily Ponds.  One might think that would be the correct spelling, due to the acres of water lilies and lotus that are spread out over the property.  But in fact, the business is named for a famous opera and film star of the 1930s, Lily Pons.  You can read more of the fascinating history of the name of the business on Lilypons Road at this link.

Goose Family
You may recall that one of my visits to Lilypons was in March, when I went to find the great blue heron rookery located on the river adjacent to the lily ponds.  At that time, there were only old stalks of last year's plants visible in the numerous ponds.
Yellow beauty

Today I wanted to check on the stage of bloom of both the water lilies and the lotus, so my friend Norma and I went there for a walk around the property.  The water lilies were in full bloom, but the lotus still has a way to go.  Large green leaves are just starting to spread themselves above the surface.

The parking lot was crowded today.  Lots of other people had the same idea to go and visit Lilypons today.  Some were walking, some were shopping, and some were feeding the large koi fish.  Geese, always present at Lilypons, were either tending their young or fussing with each other in groups.

Other wildlife was either seen or heard today, too.  Bullfrogs were singing, red winged blackbirds were calling, turtles were slipping into the water, and fish were lining up to be fed.

No matter how you spell it, or how you remember the name, the important thing to do is to make a visit to Lilypons, and not to forget your camera!
