Day 18 - Mt. Airy, Maryland

My walk today was in the small town of Mt. Airy, Maryland.  The town website is www.mountairymd.org.

Mt. Airy is undergoing a rejuvenation, with new shops and restaurants located in its "old town" downtown, and on this beautiful day, some tourists were going in and out of the shops and others were sitting on the dining patio of one of the restaurants.

One of my uses for my photographs is to create coaster tiles and sell them in gift shops.  I currently have coasters selling in both Frederick at The Muse and at Bungalow Love in Berlin, MD.  I also make and sell them for the Catoctin Furnace Historical Society.  So, today I focused my camera on landmarks that might make good coaster tiles for potential sale in a gift shop in Mt. Airy.

I got a good long walk on Main Street, uphill all the way, to the Pine Grove Chapel, and then back downhill into town.  I detoured off Main Street and walked up Paradise Avenue.

Many of the old homes, built around the turn of the century, feature tin roofs and turrets, such as this one at the corner of Park and Paradise, where my sister and her husband used to live.  I've always thought that would be a lovely address to have.

I enjoyed my visit to Mt. Airy's downtown, and I am sure I will return again sometime during the holiday season.

  1. Mt. Airy has a great small town feel to it. My favorite restaurant is the Upper Deck in downtown, excellent wings.
That's the house I was born in! Love the turret.
