The first lesson is to keep an eye on the weather report. I knew it would rain today -- storm, actually -- ushering in a cold front with the promise of glorious weather for the next few days. I also knew that I had an appointment at 1:00 this afternoon, so I decided to take my walk after my appointment. I actually had plenty of time this morning that I could have taken my walk, so as to avoid the rain, but no, I diddled the time away.
After my appointment, I headed out to Best Farm, which is part of the Monocacy Battlefield sites. It is a great place, no matter the season, and when I finally got there today, storm clouds were threatening overhead. I decided that as long as I did not hear thunder or see lightning, it would be fine.
Which brings me to my second part of this lesson. Storm clouds make for great skies and dramatic pictures, which today's photo illustrates beautifully.
The skies were definitely growing blacker and more threatening, and the wind was picking up, but I never did hear any thunder or see any lightning, so I stuck it out. Perhaps my procrastination paid off -- at least in terms of a great photo. But not necessarily a great walk. I sort of did large circles around the parking area, always near the car so I could run for shelter.
No sooner had I gotten into the car then the rain started, and it has been raining steadily now for an hour. I'm glad I didn't procrastinate any longer than I did!

You know, I was headed S on 355 at just about that time and thought about heading in for those pix too, but you are braver than I! Great shot.
ReplyDeleteBruce, if there had been any lightning, I would not have been out there. So, it really wasn't bravery on my part, mostly procrastination. Next time, go in for the shot, as long as it is safe!

ReplyDeleteI like your tip about the P7100. I have a G11, which is about the same size, and I carry it when I don't want to be "burdened" by my DSLR and lenses. These advanced compacts do an amazingly good job and we should never be afraid to rely on them! Sometimes I think, "Well, is that really enough camers?" and then I remember all the great photos that I have taken with the G11.
